In June 2023, Albuquerque Police Department (APD) Officer Liam King conducted a search of a woman without probable cause, during which he allegedly inappropriately touched her and solicited sexual favors. The woman reported that Officer King restrained her with the intent to commit a sexual offense.

Following an internal investigation by APD’s Internal Affairs, King was disciplined for policy violations and placed on administrative leave in October 2024, when the case was presented to a grand jury. In November 2024, a grand jury indicted King on multiple charges, including false imprisonment, demanding or receiving a bribe by a public officer, violation of ethical principles of public service, and criminal sexual contact.

In January 2025, the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office added King to its Brady-Giglio list, which includes officers whose credibility in court may be questionable.

On January 28, 2025, King pleaded not guilty to the charges during his court appearance. He is currently awaiting trial and remains on administrative leave from the department.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
