In March 2024, former Payne County Sheriff’s Office employee Linda Farley was charged with six counts of embezzlement and two counts of making false entries relating to the expenditure of public funds. The charges stem from allegations that Farley used false purchasing records and the Sheriff’s Office credit card to purchase goods and services for personal use, including automotive work on vehicles, hotel stays, home improvement items, a laptop computer, and gasoline. She also allegedly submitted unauthorized overtime claims and claims for work purportedly completed by her son, which never occurred. The total amount embezzled exceeds $137,700. Farley’s employment was terminated immediately upon discovery of the misconduct.
