In October 2014, Lt. Cunningham received a 30-day suspension following an investigation into sexual harassment complaints and his use of force against a homeless woman arrested for disorderly conduct. In July 2015, the city agreed to a $15,000 settlement with the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, requiring Cunningham to undergo 30 hours of training on anti-discrimination laws and related topics. The allegations remained undisclosed until 2017, when it was reported that Cunningham would retire on November 1, 2017.
