In March 2017, Lt. Nicholas Harvey failed to investigate a reported sexual assault by Clarice Hardy, a former police dispatcher. Despite being provided with a list of witnesses, Harvey did not contact them, and no investigation was conducted. This inaction was part of a broader pattern of neglecting sexual assault cases involving Alaska Native women. Hardy filed a lawsuit against Harvey and the City of Nome, alleging violations of her constitutional rights and seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
