In September 2023, Lt. Timothy Carpenter was accused of exhibiting inappropriate behavior toward bikini barista employees while using a city-owned vehicle. Incidents included slowly approaching the stands, pausing, and then driving away, as well as making lewd comments to the baristas. These actions were reported to have occurred over the past year. Following an internal investigation, Carpenter resigned from the department on April 3, 2024. The city reported his resignation to the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission.
