Detective Mario DiFronzo was terminated in 2018 after raising concerns about corruption within the Somerville Police Department. He alleged that his dismissal was retaliatory. In 2023, a federal jury awarded DiFronzo $800,000 in damages, finding that city officials had unlawfully retaliated against him for his whistleblowing activities.
