In 2003, Officer Mark Gardner was witnessed hitting a handcuffed individual in the face. In 2006, an arrestee alleged Gardner kicked him and struck him on the head with his radio while he was not resisting. Both cases were closed without confirming or denying the allegations. In 2015, Gardner was implicated in an incident where an individual sustained a head wound during an arrest, alleging an officer hit him with a revolver despite non-resistance. The case was closed without determining guilt or innocence. In 2020, Gardner and other officers forcibly removed two Black college students from their vehicle, tasing them repeatedly. Gardner was initially fired but reinstated after a review board found due process violations.
