In 2023, Officer Mark Kaili Jr. was terminated after allegedly entering a Na‘alehu home while off-duty, wearing a mask, and assaulting a 20-year-old male resident. He was charged with first-degree burglary and third-degree assault. Kaili pleaded not guilty, and his court date was scheduled for March 1, 2024. He also filed a grievance regarding his dismissal.
