In 2019, Cpl. Mark Schwartz used a Taser on a man approximately five seconds after arriving on the scene, as captured by body camera footage. The St. Albans Police Department found his actions did not violate any policies, but he resigned in March 2020 after an internal review revealed another concerning incident. Schwartz was charged with simple assault and pleaded not guilty; the case is pending.
