In January 2014, then-Sheriff Mark Wayne Shumate knowingly went hunting with a convicted felon, who was prohibited from possessing firearms. Shumate pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting a felon in possession of a firearm and was sentenced to three years of probation in July 2014.
