In April 2004, while serving as a court services officer in juvenile court in Hartford, Mierzwa alleged that an assistant attorney general altered a judge’s order to favor the Department of Children and Families. After reporting the incident to an external attorney without court authorization, she was suspended and subsequently terminated for disclosing confidential information and not adhering to the Judicial Branch’s chain of command. Mierzwa filed a federal lawsuit against the Judicial Branch, citing whistleblower retaliation and violation of free speech rights.
