In 2017, Deputy Matt Boice conducted a warrantless search of a suspect’s vehicle during a traffic stop, discovering a shotgun in the trunk. The search violated department policy, which prohibits opening a vehicle’s trunk without a warrant. Boice failed to report the search and attempted to cover it up. In 2019, Sheriff Ty Trenary terminated Boice for dishonesty and policy violations.
