CSPD Officer Matthew Anderson was named alongside Colby Hickman and Christopher Hummel in a federal lawsuit over the violent arrest of Dalvin Gadson in 2022, in which the three officers allegedly punched and kneed Gadson without provocation. Gadson’s lawsuit accused Anderson and the others of racially biased excessive force, noting that Gadson was unarmed and posed no threat when he was assaulted during a minor traffic stop. Colorado Springs officials approved a $2.1 million settlement in 2024 for Gadson’s civil rights claims, and although CSPD’s internal probes cleared the officers of legal wrongdoing, two of them were internally reprimanded for their behavior.
