In March 2010, then-Lieutenant Matthew Kirk was implicated in the burglary of Fred’s pharmacy in East Brewton. His brother, Jason Kirk, confessed to the burglary and identified Matthew as an accomplice. At the time of the burglary, Matthew was the only officer on duty and allegedly assisted in the crime. Following the investigation, Matthew Kirk resigned from the East Brewton Police Department in April 2010. He was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, one count of second-degree theft of property, and one ethics violation. He was held at the Escambia County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.

Important Community Guidelines

It is strictly against our rules to:

  • Make threats of any kind
  • Share private information such as personal emails, home addresses, or phone numbers

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
