In June 2023, Officer Matthew Rodriguez was captured on video assaulting 19-year-old Jaquwan Smith during the booking process. Rodriguez struck Smith in the head, shoved his head against the wall, and threw him to the floor, continuing to punch him even after other officers intervened. He was charged with a 10-year civil rights violation and subsequently fired from the department.
