    In August 2022, Officer Michael Cowsert was involved in a domestic incident in Algonquin, Illinois, where he grabbed, pushed, and held down a relative, causing red marks, abrasions, and a fractured hand. He resigned from the department in September 2022. In February 2024, Cowsert pleaded guilty to one count of domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, and was sentenced to two years of probation. Additional charges, including aggravated domestic battery and unlawful restraint, were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
