In 2019, Superintendent Michael J. McGrath was named in a lawsuit by Sergeant Jo Anne Pepitone, alleging that he failed to address a sexually hostile work environment within the department. The suit claimed McGrath was aware of ongoing sexual harassment and did not take appropriate action, thereby violating Pepitone’s constitutional rights under the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
