A 25-year veteran of the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Rossiter was charged with menacing constituting domestic violence in June 2023. The charge stemmed from an incident where he allegedly put his 18-year-old stepdaughter in fear of imminent serious physical injury during a heated argument at their home in Albany. Rossiter reportedly picked up a chair, held it above his head, and was about to throw it at her but stopped when his wife intervened. He resigned from his position on October 31, 2023, and voluntarily surrendered his law enforcement certifications, which were permanently revoked, ending a professional standards case against him. The criminal charge was dismissed in November 2023 as part of the agreement leading to his resignation and loss of certification.

Important Community Guidelines

It is strictly against our rules to:

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
