Sgt. Michael Kunovich was involved in a May 2024 incident where he initiated a stop of Virgilio Aguilar Mendez without clear reasonable suspicion. During the encounter, Kunovich tased Aguilar Mendez six times over two minutes. Kunovich collapsed and died from natural causes shortly after the incident. His actions are part of a federal civil rights lawsuit alleging excessive force and violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
