In October 2019, Mayor Michael McMillan was accused of slapping a female city employee, Lyndsey Cooper, inside city hall. The incident was captured on surveillance video. Cooper filed a criminal complaint, leading to McMillan’s arrest for harassment. Cooper was later terminated for insubordination, which her attorney claimed was retaliatory. The case was under investigation as of August 2020.
