In April 2022, former Brookside Police Chief Michael Ryan Jones was arrested in Covington County for impersonating a peace officer. After resigning from Brookside PD in January 2022 amid allegations of wrongdoing, Jones used his former badge during a traffic stop to avoid a speeding ticket. In May 2024, he pleaded guilty to impersonating a public servant, received a three-month jail sentence, and was barred from serving as a peace officer in Alabama.
