Former Douglas police officer Miguel A. Gutierrez was arrested in early 2019 in Agua Prieta, Sonora, for involvement in an aggravated assault. He was later accused of lying to an FBI agent during an investigation into allegations that he provided sensitive law enforcement information to a drug trafficking organization based in Mexico. Gutierrez resigned in May 2020 and voluntarily relinquished his peace officer certification in April 2022, resulting in his name being added to the National Decertification Index.
