Former Clarke County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Mitchell Finney was convicted of deprivation of rights under color of law. On May 11, 2019, Finney responded to a call at the Grove Hill Hospital, where he punched a handcuffed patient in the face and then sprayed him with pepper spray for an extended period. In October 2020, a jury found him guilty, and in January 2021, he was sentenced to three years of probation for the assault.
