Former Undersheriff Mykol Travis Brookshire participated in a scheme with Sheriff Terry Alan Jones to unlawfully seize cash from motorists between November 2007 and May 2009. They conducted traffic stops, confiscated large sums of money, reported only a portion for forfeiture, and kept the remainder for personal gain. In May 2009, they seized money from an undercover federal agent. Both resigned from their positions and were sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for conspiracy under color of law to interfere with interstate commerce.
