Independence, Missouri, prosecutor Melesa Johnson announced that no criminal charges will be filed against a police officer who fatally shot Maria Pike and her 3-month-old daughter, Destinii, in November. The officer responded to an assault report and fired when Pike, holding a butcher knife and her child, advanced toward him. Johnson stated the use of deadly force was legally justified.​apnews.com
