In August 2020, Officer Nathan Johnson was implicated in a federal lawsuit alleging deliberate indifference to the medical needs of inmate John Wayne Snider. Despite Snider exhibiting severe withdrawal symptoms, including chest pains and repeated vomiting, and paramedics recommending hospital care, Johnson and then-Police Chief Freddy Norton allegedly failed to provide necessary medical attention, resulting in Snider’s death in the city jail. The lawsuit claims this neglect led directly to Snider’s death.
