On November 1, 2019, Officer Nicholas Lordi allegedly assaulted 67-year-old John Monroque at a Food Plus grocery store in West Palm Beach. Lordi reportedly grabbed Monroque from behind, pushed him onto the front of his police car, and then took him to the ground, placing him in a headlock. He allegedly punched Monroque multiple times with a closed fist, continuing the assault even after Monroque was handcuffed and lying unconscious on the pavement. Monroque was later diagnosed with significant head injuries, including a suspected skull fracture and broken nose. All charges against Monroque were dropped after video footage of the incident was disclosed. Officer Lordi was arrested and charged with aggravated battery for his alleged assault on February 15, 2022.
