On September 1, 2018, Officer Nicretia Jones arrested video blogger Edward Michael Strauss for filming on-duty police officers from a public walkway. Strauss was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting law enforcement; however, these charges were later dropped. An internal investigation found that Jones violated several department procedures, including disrespecting Strauss’ constitutionally protected civil rights and making false statements. Jones resigned from the Gary Police Department effective March 8, 2019. Strauss filed a lawsuit against Jones, the city, and other officers involved in the incident.
