In June 2022, the daughters of retired Bradley County Jail Administrator Christian Robert Jensen filed a $4 million wrongful death lawsuit against the county and the Sheriff’s Office. The lawsuit alleges that deputies failed to properly handle a mental health crisis, leading to Jensen’s death. The plaintiffs claim inadequate training in the use of force and handling individuals with mental health issues. The incident occurred when Jensen, who had retired in 2018 after 29 years of service, called 911 in distress and threatened suicide. Responding deputies reportedly shot and killed him during the wellness check. The lawsuit asserts that the deputies’ actions were willful, malicious, oppressive, and reckless. The Sheriff’s Office declined to comment on the pending litigation.
