In November 1980, Officer Ackerson discovered marijuana on the police station restroom floor, removed it, and stored it in his personal vehicle and later at his home, eventually destroying it in May 1981. He also witnessed a police dispatcher using marijuana and failed to report it. The Aberdeen Civil Service Board found that his removal was made in good faith for cause but modified the termination to a seven-week suspension without pay, after which he was reinstated.
