In January 2019, Lieutenant Andrew Boden was stripped of his weapon and sent for a psychological fitness evaluation following a verbal dispute. Despite passing the evaluation, he was suspended with pay, which was later converted to unpaid leave. Boden filed a grievance and announced his candidacy for sheriff in March 2019. Shortly after, he faced disciplinary charges and was suspended. After Sheriff Strada’s re-election, Boden was demoted to sergeant and eventually retired in November 2019, three years shy of full pension benefits. He filed a lawsuit alleging retaliation and a hostile work environment.
