On August 8, 2023, Officer Teeter fatally shot Mike Alexander-Garcia, who was attempting to flee in a stolen vehicle while being attacked by a police dog. The Office of Inspector General deemed the use of deadly force justified. However, Alexander-Garcia’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Teeter, the police department, and the town, alleging violations of constitutional rights and police procedures. The lawsuit also called for a federal civil rights investigation, citing potential racial profiling. The case remains under investigation by the state inspector general’s office.
