In February 2023, Officer Anthony Souza was involved in the arrest of Claire Hall, a Newport attorney, who alleged that she was unlawfully arrested and physically injured during the incident. Hall claimed that Officer Souza acted in a combative manner and failed to properly assess the medical condition of an accident victim before instructing him to move his vehicle. She filed a federal lawsuit against Officer Souza and the South Kingstown Police Department, alleging assault and violation of her rights. The lawsuit was filed in September 2023 and is currently pending.
