In February 2017, Officer Becerra was investigated for mistreating an intoxicated individual, Taahaluta Pioche. Becerra rolled down the rear windows of his patrol car on a freezing night, making the detainee colder. He couldn’t provide a reasonable explanation for his actions. The investigation concluded that Becerra improperly treated a person in custody and demonstrated unsatisfactory performance. He was placed on administrative leave and recommended for termination due to this incident and a history of prior disciplinary events.
