On September 11, 2020, Officer Ben Butler was involved in an incident where he allegedly assaulted David L. Roseberry, who was asleep in his vehicle. Roseberry claims that Butler and other officers dragged him from the car and beat him, resulting in a broken neck and permanent paralysis. A federal lawsuit was filed against Butler and four unnamed officers, accusing them of excessive force, illegal seizure, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages for the injuries sustained.
