In May 2019, Officer Christopher Meyer was involved in an incident where he pointed a gun and yelled profanities at a Black family during a response to a shoplifting complaint. The family, including a pregnant woman and young children, was held at gunpoint over an alleged stolen doll. The incident was captured on video and led to public outrage. A disciplinary review board recommended a six-week suspension, but in October 2019, Police Chief Jeri Williams announced Meyer’s termination, stating that the suspension was insufficient to address the adverse effects of his actions on the department and community.
