In September 2018, Officer Donte Hill, who is Black, used a racial slur while intervening in a fight in Westwood. Initially, he received a written reprimand and counseling. However, after a similar incident involving another officer, Hill was retroactively suspended for seven days and placed on an employee intervention plan. He later filed a lawsuit alleging unfair punishment and employment discrimination.
