On September 9, 2022, Officer Jason Chapin pulled over Gene Clemetson, a Black man, for allegedly running a red light. Chapin claimed to smell alcohol and called for backup, leading to five officers on the scene. Clemetson was forcibly removed from his vehicle, handcuffed, and subjected to a limited sobriety test. He filed a federal lawsuit alleging racial discrimination and excessive force, seeking compensatory and punitive damages. The case is ongoing as of September 2024.
