In November 2016, Officer Jeff Bonar was captured on video punching a woman in the face during an arrest. The Flagstaff Police Department found that Bonar violated policies on unreasonable and excessive force and for failing to activate his body camera. Following a disciplinary board’s recommendation for termination, Bonar resigned from the department. The incident was widely publicized, leading to public outcry and scrutiny of the department’s use-of-force policies.
