In 2011, Officer John Shields arrested resident John Healy for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Healy alleged that Shields used excessive force during the arrest and later perjured himself in court. Healy filed a lawsuit against Shields and the Haverford Township Police Department, claiming violations of his constitutional rights. The case went to trial, and the jury found in favor of Officer Shields and the police department, determining that Healy’s claims were unfounded.
