In 2009, Officer Martin Montgomery responded to a domestic disturbance call involving Jennifer Cox. After driving her home, he followed her inside and coerced her into sex. Montgomery was later convicted of criminal deviate conduct and sentenced to 12 years in prison. Cox filed a lawsuit against the Evansville Police Department and the City of Evansville, which was initially dismissed but later reinstated on appeal, allowing her to pursue claims against the city for the officer’s misconduct.
