On June 20, 2023, Officer Marvin Brown Jr., a correctional officer at the Ascension Parish Jail, was caught on video using excessive force against inmate Ricky Williams. After Williams was placed in a segregation cell for fighting with another inmate, Brown entered the cell and punched Williams approximately six times while he was on the ground. Brown was arrested on charges of malfeasance in office and battery, and was subsequently terminated from his position.
