In 2012, Officer Mike Brown, a sergeant within the Lafayette Police Department, was accused of filing a false and vindictive complaint against fellow officer Broussard, alleging she had engaged in an unauthorized investigation. Broussard contended that Brown’s accusations were retaliatory, following her own complaint against him, which had been sustained. The court found that Brown’s false complaint could potentially be causally connected to a constitutional deprivation, leading to the denial of his motion to dismiss the § 1983 claim against him.
