On June 30, 2024, at approximately 2:30 AM, a Hartselle police officer initiated a traffic stop on Highway 31 near the intersection of Highway 36 after observing a vehicle exceeding the speed limit. The driver, an off-duty Decatur police officer, admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that night. Instead of arresting the driver for DUI, the Hartselle officer arranged to transport him to a nearby residence. Upon review, it was determined that the officer did not act in accordance with the policies and standards of the Hartselle Police Department and was disciplined accordingly.
