On April 27, 2009, Officer Navarette participated in the management of an inmate showing severe symptoms of methamphetamine intoxication. The inmate was placed in a restraint chair and later found unresponsive. Emergency medical services were called, but the inmate was pronounced dead on April 28, 2009. The incident led to a lawsuit claiming that the officers failed to provide timely medical care, resulting in the inmate’s death.
