Former Chief Paul Prine was accused in a city report published in April 2024 of fostering a culture of excessive force and discrimination within the department, particularly affecting the Black community. Prine was placed on administrative leave and subsequently fired on April 30, 2024, after nearly three decades in law enforcement. He has since filed a lawsuit against the city officials, alleging defamation and wrongful termination.
