In August 2022, Officer Puerto was named in a lawsuit alleging excessive force during a traffic stop. The plaintiff alleges that Puerto joined other officers in physically assaulting him after he was forcibly removed from his vehicle. The assault reportedly included slamming the plaintiff to the ground and punching and kicking him. The plaintiff was charged with Fleeing/Eluding Arrest and Resisting a Public Officer; these charges were later dismissed. The lawsuit alleges violations of the Fourth Amendment, including unlawful stop, excessive force, unlawful arrest, and malicious prosecution.
