In November 2024, Officer Rankila was involved in an incident where he claimed his hand was injured when a suspect kicked a car door shut on it. However, body camera footage revealed inconsistencies between his report and the actual events. The footage showed that his hand was not in the position he described, leading to questions about the accuracy of his report. As a result, the Douglas County District Attorney dismissed 40 cases due to concerns over Officer Rankila’s credibility.
