On January 1, 2021, Officer Robert Huber fatally shot James Williams, a 46-year-old Black man, through a privacy fence without identifying himself or giving a warning. Williams was celebrating New Year’s Eve by firing his rifle into the air from his porch. A lawsuit filed in March 2023 alleges excessive force and failure to properly train officers, leading to Williams’s death in front of his wife and children.
