In January 2024, Officer Shoemaker was involved in an incident where he body-slammed a woman during a family dispute, an action deemed ‘not objectively reasonable’ by the city’s independent police auditor. Despite recommendations for disciplinary action, the police chief found his actions justified. The city settled the lawsuit for $747,000 in early 2024.
